Kunkel Engineering Group

Municipal Engineering Services for Smaller Towns and Villages

Beaver Dam, Wisconsin

Kunkel Engineering Group is a municipal engineering consulting firm serving municipal clients throughout south central Wisconsin. We are located in Beaver Dam, just one hour from Milwaukee, Madison, and the Fox Valley.

We understand that smaller communities are not immune to big problems.

The challenges presented by growth, community development, aging facilities and dated technology are not limited just to burgeoning cities. Smaller communities, however, function with more limited resources.

We are engineering consultants with more than 25 years of experience helping Wisconsin communities overcome big challenges.

Horicon Highway 33/Larabee Street Reconstruction with WiDOT

Kunkel Engineering Group | Horicon Highway 33/Larabee Street Reconstruction with WiDOT

Phase I of the massive Highway 33/Larabee Street improvements project, which encompassed sewer and water utility improvements through downtown Horicon, has been completed ahead of schedule and under budget. Kunkel Engineering Group engineered the sewer and water utility portions of the initiative and worked with city officials to secure $366,900 in grant funding for downtown enhancements.

Since the Phase I work involved the downtown thoroughfare extending from North Palmatory Street to Vine Street, Kunkel Engineering worked hard to minimize the disruption to the business district and fulfilled its goal of completing the project in advance of the fall tourist season and upcoming community events.

Phase II, now under construction, includes sewer and water utility improvements from Vine Street west to Larabee Street between Lake and Barstow streets. Kunkel Engineering Group designed and engineered the sewer and water utility portion as well as street reconstruction for this phase. In the planning for this phase, it was determined that utility and street reconstruction could provide opportunities for environmental preservation and engineering efficiencies. The DOT was also able to bid this project as part of the Highway 33 initiative, thus reducing the direct burden of cost to city residents.

In its entirety the Highway 33/Larabee Street project encompasses the replacement of nearly 27,000 linear feet of water main and sewer line, road reconstruction and downtown enhancement, Kunkel said, expanding the city’s arterial water main network for better fire flow and supply, and reducing infiltration and inflow in the sanitary sewer system. Phase II will be substantially complete and open for traffic by this fall with final completion by summer 2010 at an estimated cost of $4.2 million.
